PSYCHOTHERAPIST
"It is most often suffering that kindles love, loss that deepens understanding, hurt that opens the eyes of the heart that see forgiveness as a way of life and peace of mind as our birthright."
JOAN BORYSENKO
Debra Garfield Milner's extensive clinical background spans various settings, including inpatient and residential behavioral health facilities. Her approach emphasizes empowering clients to tap into their innate healing capacities through self-exploration and the utilization of diverse therapeutic techniques.
Debra holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Barry University and a Master of Social Work degree from Arizona State University.
Before her graduate education in social work, Debra spent a decade as a Registered Nurse in a medical and surgical intensive care unit. This background informs her holistic approach to client care, integrating physical and psychological aspects of well-being.
With more than two decades in practice in Tucson's behavioral health community, she has developed a wealth of experience in assisting individuals, families, and groups in achieving emotional wellness and independence.
Debra employs a solution-oriented approach in therapy, customizing her methods to address the unique requirements of every individual she works with. Her expertise lies in stress alleviation, resolving interpersonal conflicts, and managing pain. Ultimately, her aim is to empower clients by equipping them with practical coping mechanisms and nurturing self-reliance.
“Through years of work as a nurse and therapist I have found helping people cope with major transitions in their lives most satisfying” says Debra “Those transitions can include serious illness, physical limitations and impairment, death, divorce, and dependencies. Helping people adjust as necessary to new circumstances in their lives is challenging and gratifying. Helping them to reach into the hidden reserves of their souls. To not only change they way they live, but to also change the way they hope.”
"The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely."

JOAN BORYSENKO
"Freedom is the destiny of every living being. We become free by waking from our dreams of fear, scarcity, blame and guilt. By taking responsibility for acting, to the best of our knowledge, with care and loving-kindness that we may kindle the light of love within and by that light see our way home and serve as beacons for others along the way"
